Press Feature: Nauti Sisters in InsideHook
Share
We’re honored to be featured in InsideHook’s travel section in the article “Consider the Oyster: The New Lifeblood of Coastal Maine”, written by Aaron Cohen with photography by Steve De Neef.
The piece explores how climate change is transforming Maine’s iconic working waterfront—and how a new generation of aquaculture entrepreneurs is rising in response. At the heart of the story: Nauti Sisters Sea Farm, our Casco Bay oyster farm and experiential tourism business.
⚓ A Spotlight on Maine’s Aquaculture Future
As lobstermen navigate warming waters and shifting species patterns, small-scale aquaculture has emerged as a climate-resilient path forward. InsideHook highlights this shift and the growing number of farmers turning to oysters and kelp—not only to sustain livelihoods, but to protect the ecosystems they rely on.
Our founder, Alicia Gaiero, shares how she went from interning in aquaculture while in college to launching Nauti Sisters Sea Farm on Littlejohn Island in 2020. What started as a one-woman operation has since grown into a family business, with sisters Amy and Chelsea joining as licensed captains, farm managers, and co-builders of a bigger mission.
🦪 “The Oysters Are the Byproduct”
InsideHook’s profile celebrates the unique mix of grit, creativity, and community that defines Nauti Sisters. But as Alicia explains in the piece, “the least important thing to me is the oysters. It’s the intrinsic value of working on the water… then there’s this other component, where I get to work with my sisters and a number of incredible young women.”
We’re proud that our brand—playful, purposeful, and rooted in saltwater storytelling—is resonating far beyond the Maine coast.
