MaineBiz recently published a photo essay on Maine’s oyster growing community. We were honored to be part of it. The piece, shot by Jim Neuger, captures life on working oyster farms across the state — including our floating bag farm on Casco Bay in Yarmouth, Maine.
What the Feature Covers
The essay documents the dedication behind Maine’s oyster industry. It follows farmers through the process of tending gear, harvesting oysters, and sorting catch. For anyone curious about where Maine oysters come from, it is a compelling look behind the scenes.
Maine’s oyster industry has grown significantly in recent years. The state’s cold, clean water produces some of the best oysters in the world. Oysters thrive here partly because they filter the water as they grow — improving the health of the very ecosystem that sustains them.
Our Story in the Piece
Nauti Sisters Sea Farm began with an internship and a leap of faith. What started as a one-woman operation has grown into a farm and ecotourism business run by three sisters on Maine’s working waterfront. We grow Nauti Sisters oysters in Casco Bay and offer private farm tours from May through September.
Being recognized in MaineBiz alongside other Maine growers is a reminder of how far this community has come — and how much more there is to build.
